I was reading stories by [info]mylodon, and I started wondering. When you read (and/or write) Hornblower fic, especially H/A slash fic, do you identify with Archie or Horatio more? Or do you *not* identify with any character?

I can enjoy many, if not most, books and stories and films without actually identifying with any character, but I tend to put myself in Horatio's place when I read H/A slash fic. And somehow it feels right, despite the fact that Horatio as a character annoys me sometimes. But at the same time, I like to think I'm more Archie-like than Horatio-like. I'm not always nice to Horry, cos I think there's more than a bit of Mary Sue-ness in him, but I still like him a lot, or else I wouldn't be reading and writing H/A slash.

Is it because I luv Archie so much that I need to put myself in his lover's place? Or is it because I'm actually more like Horatio than I'd like to admit? Not in the sense that I'm a mathematical genius (I'm worse than Simpson at maths), but that I'm lonely and emotionally fragile, like Horry is, beneath that cool façade?

Just a thought, no point or anything :)

Do you think you'll watch (and like) a Horatio-less Hornblower movie? I know Hornblower is about Hornblower, but I want to know, what if Horatio is disposed of instead of Archie? Archieless HH3 traumatized many of us, but do you think you would find Archie as the hero of the movie so interesting that it's worth watching even without the H/A relationship? Just a random pointless question :P
